Why are some people so quick to criticize the Baby Boomers?
I’m 33 years old, so I’m actually a Generation Xer. That being said, though, I have to say that I have always liked and respected the Baby Boomers. After all, they had the courage to question and rebel against outdated social norms. Not only that, but they got the ball rolling on such things as women’s rights, minority rights, gay rights, and the environment. Plus, they produced some awesome music! The music world would have been much duller if we hadn’t had the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, and the Doors, among others.
Layne B: The Baby Boomers are responsible for the many social freedoms we now take for granted. How is fighting for those freedoms a selfish behavior?

I don’t know. I honestly believe that they are the last truly hard working generation. I am not a Boomer or Gen Xer but really believe each generation, overall, has become lazier and lazier since the Baby Boomers.
well i’m 36 i never heard people criticize the boomers…all i ever heard were good things….hmmmm
Thank you, we try. I must admit that many of our age group have forgotten the rebellion but for the most part we still think of others. It seems that those after us have the attitude that the world owes them something.
the baby boomers also dropped the ball. they are greedy and only care about hoarding and acquiring things for themselves.
My problem is the apparent self-absorption of some of them. Some of the same folks who started the “free speech” movement on campus (to get the things they wanted to hear said, and to overthrow the old) also drafted “hate speech” codes three decades later (to prevent the things they didn’t want to hear to from being said, often by younger folks).
I sometimes see an unprincipled “me first” attitude. “Never trust anyone over 30″ has turned into “I want my Social Security and the young folks have to pay for it.” There’s an arrogance there.
And I also see a lot more whining than the Great Depression/WWII generation, who actually legislated many of the changes in law.
I’m technically a member of the Baby Boomers, so I feel justified in including myself in some of their tendencies! I try to fight them when I recognize them in myself.
